Tackling RV Maintenance: Battery Upgrades and the Never‑Ending To‑Do List

If there’s one universal truth among RV’ers, it’s this: the work never stops when the wheels do. The moment you’re parked, a whole different adventure begins — changing generator oil, sealing gaps before the next rainstorm, checking the roof, tightening this, replacing that. The list goes on, and somehow it always grows. This week, it was my turn to tackle a big one: replacing both the chassis and house batteries in the coach. Choosing the New Batteries I decided to switch to AGM batteries this time around. After years of topping off water levels every month, I was ready for something a little more hands‑off. AGM means no more refilling, less mess, and fewer maintenance chores — exactly what I was looking for. After some comparison shopping, I landed on Mighty Max batteries on Amazon . The reviews were solid, the specs matched what I needed, and the price didn’t make me choke. I hit “Order” expecting a long wait. Nope. Three days later, they were sitting on my doorstep like they tele...

Our Three-Week RV Adventure: From Georgia Lakes to New England Memories

Image
Every year, when summer begins to wind down, we pack up the RV and hit the road for our annual trip. This year’s journey—three weeks long—took us from the quiet lakes of Georgia all the way up to the cool air of New England, with family, friends, and a few surprises along the way. Off We Go: First Stop, Lake Lenore, GA We rolled out on Friday, August 31st, bound for Lake Lenore, Georgia, where we planned to reconnect with friends. The lake gave us exactly what we needed—slow mornings, calm water, and time with David and Barbra, a couple we met during our ill‑fated Helena, GA trip back in 2023. We also spent time with Lorianne, who’s practically a sister to Jodi. On the morning, we were set to leave, we discovered a Muscadine vine right next to our site, heavy with ripe grapes. If only we’d noticed it sooner—I managed to grab just a handful before we pulled out. Muscadines Next Stop: Spruce Pine, NC From Georgia, we climbed the eastern side of the Smokies into Spruce Pine, Nort...

Beyond the RV: Motorcycles, Cruises, and Caribbean Adventures

Not Just RV Life Before anyone thinks that Jodi and I only do RV trips—let me set the record straight. We love mixing it up. February: A Ride to Micanopy In early February, we took a  motorcycle ride to Micanopy, FL , a charming little town tucked off the beaten path. It’s rich in history and filled with  great antique shops —a perfect day trip destination. Late February: Caribbean Cruise Adventures Later that month, we joined our friends  Kim and Deyo  for a  two-week back-to-back cruise  aboard  Carnival Cruise Lines , departing from  Miami . 🇯🇲 Jamaica Our first stop was  Jamaica . It was vibrant and full of character—but let’s just say the air was... aromatic. The smell of pot was everywhere. We didn’t explore much, and by the time we got back onboard, we were pretty sure we had a contact high. 🐢 Cayman Islands Next up: the  Cayman Islands . Absolutely stunning. We visited the  Cayman Turtle Center , where they care for injur...

Memphis Moments: Graceland, Family, and a Hurricane

Image
Tuesday: Rolling into Memphis We made the run into  Memphis  early Tuesday morning. It’s always interesting to see who you’re sharing the road with—and this trip was no exception. We passed several  Amish buggies  and even a  vegan butcher , which definitely caught our attention. Pulling into  T.O. Fuller State Park Campground  felt a little shady at first. The surrounding neighborhood didn’t seem like the kind of place you’d want to walk around after dark. But the site itself was comfortable, and we were excited to visit  Graceland  and meet  Jodi’s newly discovered half-sister . Wednesday: Graceland and Family Connections After breakfast, we kept an eye on the weather back home as a  hurricane made landfall . We checked in with the girls to make sure they were safe, then loaded up the bike to head out. Unfortunately, our streak of bad luck continued—the bike wouldn’t start. Thinking I’d forgotten to put it in travel mode, I tried ...
