We woke early and headed out on the long drive to Amarillo, TX. Our destination, The Big Texan RV Park. Getting into the park the navigation had us taking some back roads that seemed a bit shady and I was nervous about what we'd gotten ourselves into. But, as usual, Jodi had picked a great spot. The park was big and accommodating and we had no problems pulling into our spot even with the bike trailered behind us.
Once we got settled in and had a bite to eat, we decided to go for a walk. As we walked towards the front of the park, we could hear music coming from across the street and decided to go investigate. As we got closer, we discovered that they were having a concert at The Starlight Ranch Event Center. We walked up to the gate to see who was performing and discovered that none other than Mark Chestnut was playing. Well, we weren't going to pay to go in, but the woman in the ticket booth asked if we were staying at the RV Park. When we told her yes, she not only told us we could come in, but gave us bands for the VIP section. How awesome was that?

The next day we had a couple of sites we wanted to go see. First was Cadillac Ranch. Now, to be honest, I don't get the appeal. Someone came along, stuck a line of Cadillac's in the dirt and let people come in and spray paint all over them. But Jodi wanted to see it and who am I to deny her? 😀
The next day we rode east to Cross of Our Lord which is supposed to be the largest free standing cross in America. I can believe it. We spent about an hour wondering the grounds before heading back to Amarillo for the big event of the day, dinner at The Big Texan Steak Ranch and Brewery, known world over for its 72 oz steak dinner challenge. |

The challenge is that if you can eat the 72oz steak, loaded baked potato, salad and roll in an hour the meal is free, else you pay. While tempting, I prefer to enjoy my steak and not end up in a food coma. We stood in line for about 30 minutes to put our name on the wait list and then proceeded to wonder around the building. They have several small shops and a bar that you can wait at until they page you. Which surprisingly wasn't that long. As we made our way into be seated there were three guys on the stage trying to complete the challenge. None did. However, there is a board as you wait to put your name on the list to eat that shows all of the people that have completed it. Amazingly, the person with the fastest time, in like 20 minutes, was a woman. Somehow, I picture her as being 90lbs soaking wet, but I could be totally wrong. While the restaurant is packed, the food was awesome. The steaks were perfectly cooked and they had fiddlers walking around playing. And the decor is just what you'd expect from a steakhouse in TX. Lots of animal heads and stuffed animals. Ok, maybe not for everyone, but I liked it.
After dinner we managed to get back to the park and roll ourselves into bed. How, I'm not sure. LOL.
We slept in the next morning. Probably still recovering from our dinner the night before. With no solid plans for the day, we decided to find an antique shop and I wanted to get some boots and a hat. When in Rome? Nope. I used to wear boots a lot when I was younger and I really wanted a nice hat, so after a couple of shops we went where everyone goes, Cavenders Boot City. It didn't take long and I found my hat, a pair of boots and a pair for Jodi. Perfect!!! Now back to the park and prep to leave the next morning heading to meet friends in Fredericksburg, TX. Wine country of TX.
